Community Safe Spaces for Young People

Patrice Wellness Initiative (PWI) Uganda, in partnership with Green Media and Ssena Healing Africa, organized a community safe space engagement for young people. The session created a supportive environment where participants could freely talk about their mental health and wellbeing.

A Space to Speak Freely

The gathering provided a heart-to-heart platform where young people reflected on real-life struggles affecting their emotional wellbeing. Conversations explored relationships, self-worth, identity, and daily pressures that many youths silently carry.

Sharing Experiences

Participants openly shared personal stories of vulnerability. There was laughter, honesty, and even tears, reminding everyone present that they were not alone in their experiences. The open dialogue helped normalize emotional challenges and encouraged empathy among peers.

Building Support and Resilience

Facilitators guided discussions on recognizing mental health triggers and responding in healthier ways. The session strengthened peer connections and encouraged mutual encouragement, understanding, and responsible decision-making.

Impact

The activity fostered solidarity, peer support, and resilience among participants. Young people left feeling heard, valued, and more confident to seek help and support others within their communities.

Conclusion

Community safe spaces continue to be an important approach in strengthening youth mental wellbeing. By creating trusted environments for open dialogue, Patrice Wellness Initiative empowers young people to heal, connect, and grow together.
